Who was Saint Benedict?
Born in Nursia, Italy around 480 AD, Benedict left the comforts of Roman society to seek God in solitude. He became the Father of Western Monasticism — and the Church’s most celebrated protector against evil.
The accounts of his life tell of a poisoned cup that shattered at his blessing, and a raven that carried away poisoned bread before it could reach him. From his life and his prayers came the medal that bears his name.
